Capital On Tap Sage Integration: Connect in Minutes (2026)
By Afshin · · 5 min read
Capital On Tap natively integrates with Xero, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent. Sage users — particularly those on Sage 50 or Sage Accounting (formerly Sage One) — need a different approach. This guide covers all three options, from manual CSV import to automated bank feeds via open banking.
Option 1: Open Banking Bank Feed (Sage Accounting — Recommended)
If you use Sage Accounting (the cloud version), you can connect Capital On Tap as a bank feed using open banking. In Sage Accounting, go to Banking → Add Account → Connect via open banking. Search for 'Capital On Tap' — it appears in the list as it supports Open Banking under its FCA licence.
Once connected, transactions flow into Sage Accounting automatically, usually within 24 hours of being posted. You still need to code each transaction against the right nominal account, but the import step is fully automated.
Option 2: CSV Export and Import (Sage 50 and Sage Accounting)
Log in to the Capital On Tap portal at app.capitalontap.com. Go to Statements → Download → select the date range → export as CSV. The export includes date, description, amount, and currency.
In Sage 50, go to Bank Accounts → select your Capital On Tap account → Import Statement. Map the CSV columns to Sage's fields (Date, Description, Amount). For Sage Accounting, go to Banking → Import Transactions and upload the file. This process takes around five minutes and is reliable for monthly reconciliation.
Option 3: Use a Third-Party Connector (AutoEntry, Dext, Hubdoc)
If your accountant uses Dext (formerly Receipt Bank), AutoEntry, or Hubdoc alongside Sage, you can forward Capital On Tap transaction data through these tools. They connect to Capital On Tap via open banking and push cleaned transaction data into Sage, with category suggestions and receipt matching.
This is the most automated option and is popular with bookkeepers handling multiple clients. Ask your accountant if they already have a Dext or AutoEntry subscription — they often do.
Tips for Clean Reconciliation
Create a dedicated bank account in Sage for Capital On Tap — don't lump it in with your main current account. This keeps credit card spend separate from bank movements and makes the monthly reconciliation much cleaner.
Set up a standing transfer in Sage for your monthly Capital On Tap direct debit payment, so the contra entry reconciles automatically against the card balance.
