Capital On Tap Apple Pay & Google Pay Setup 2026
By Afshin · · 5 min read
Capital On Tap supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Wallet across all UK iOS and Android devices. The setup takes under two minutes per wallet and unlocks the unlimited contactless limit (the £100 cap doesn't apply to wallet payments). Here's the full 2026 walkthrough.
Add Capital On Tap to Apple Pay
On iPhone:
- Open the Wallet app
- Tap the '+' button top right
- Choose 'Debit or Credit Card'
- Either scan the card or enter details manually (number, expiry, CVV)
- Capital On Tap will send a one-time SMS code to the registered director's mobile
- Enter the code; the card is now active in Apple Pay
Add Capital On Tap to Google Wallet
On any Android phone:
- Open Google Wallet on Android
- Tap 'Add to Wallet' → 'Payment card'
- Tap 'New credit or debit card'
- Scan or enter card details
- Verify the SMS code Capital On Tap sends to the registered director
- Card is active in Google Wallet immediately
Add Capital On Tap to Samsung Wallet
Samsung Wallet works the same way as Google Wallet on Samsung phones. Open Samsung Wallet → '+' → Card → enter Capital On Tap details → SMS verify. Samsung Wallet also supports MST (magnetic stripe transmission) on older terminals that don't accept NFC, which Apple Pay and Google Pay don't.
2026 UK contactless limits
The UK's £100 contactless limit only applies to physical card taps. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Wallet payments are biometrically authenticated (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, PIN) and have no upper limit imposed by Capital On Tap or the UK regulator. You can pay £5,000+ in a single tap if the merchant terminal accepts it.
Some merchants set their own ceiling (typically £500-£1,000) regardless of wallet status. If declined for amount, switch to chip-and-PIN.
If wallet activation fails
A handful of issues prevent Capital On Tap from activating on a wallet:
- Wrong mobile number registered with Capital On Tap (update in business.capitalontap.com → Account → Personal Details)
- Card not yet activated for first use (activate via the portal or app first)
- Account on a temporary hold (check for any messages in the cardholder portal)
- Older iPhone running iOS 14 or earlier (Apple Pay requires iOS 15+)
Frequently asked questions
- Does Capital On Tap charge to use Apple Pay or Google Pay?
- No. Wallet payments cost the same as a physical card tap or chip-and-PIN. There's no surcharge from Capital On Tap, and you earn the same 1% cashback or Avios on every wallet transaction.
- Can I add Capital On Tap to multiple iPhones or wallets?
- Yes. You can add the same card to Apple Pay on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac simultaneously, and to Google Wallet on multiple Android devices. Each device requires SMS verification.
- Why is the contactless limit higher with Apple Pay than the card?
- Apple Pay and Google Pay use biometric authentication, which the FCA classifies as Strong Customer Authentication. SCA payments are exempt from the £100 contactless cap that applies to non-authenticated card taps.
